Good Bye, Etiquette

At one time, you didn’t have to teach people common sense or common courtesy. Sadly, we are in short supply of both these days.

Riding the M&E MidTown Direct home today, I felt like I was on the tower of Babel. It seemed just about everyone was on a cell phone having rather loud conversations. One guy behind me was clearly going through a divorce since “custody of the kids” was part of the conversation along with what a ?!@##$ his soon to be ex-wife is. Did I really need to hear that? No, I did not.

A teenage young lady in front of me was relating her drinking exploits of the night before. To know that she got sick was a little too much info for me; so, I got up and moved into the next car. I guess she didn’t read about the student in South Jersey who literally drank himself to death.

The next car was strewn with discarded newspapers and two seats had left over Chicken McNuggets on them. I guess this had been the pig train. I managed to find a seat reasonably close to the front of the train where I was able to read a book.

I wish NJT had a quiet car–I would be the first to ride it. I also wish people would stop being such slobs.
