Hoboken Art & Music Festival

May 3rd 2007 12:58 pm

As a slightly off-topic item, I want to mention that this Sunday is the Hoboken Art & Music Festival, on Washington Street in Hoboken, from Observer Highway (near the train terminal) to 7th Street. The festival’s hours are 11 am to 6 pm. I went last year and had a great time. There were a bunch of concerts and street vendors with food and other items. The highlight (for me, at least) was a free concert by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

This year, there’s a free concert by Dr. John. Dr. John performed last weekend at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, one of the top jazz festivals in North America. You had to pay at least $35 admission. In Hoboken, Dr. John’s free concert will be held at the Observer Highway stage from 4:45 pm to 5:30pm.

The weather is supposed to be perfect, so go to Hoboken and have a great time. Take the kids! Here is more information and a performance schedule.

ObTransit: Don’t drive to Hoboken on Sunday. At least not if you expect to park for a reasonable fee. Take the train instead, as the train terminal is right at the southern end of Washington Street. But if you take the Morristown Line or Gladstone Branch, be aware that the trains to Hoboken run only every two or three hours. In particular, don’t miss the 6:07 pm departure from Hoboken, or you’ll be stuck until after 8 pm.

I just found out that there will be service disruptions on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Line this weekend, which will affect people heading to the festival from Jersey City or Bayonne. There will be no service between Pavonia-Newport Station and Harsimus Cove Station in either direction. Shuttle buses will be provided, or you can walk between the stations.
