Zach Braff mentions NJT on SNL

May 22nd 2007 08:57 pm

South Orange native Zach Braff, director, writer and star of the movie Garden State (with Natalie Portman), mentioned NJ Transit during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live. The whole monologue is worth watching, at least if you like New Jersey:

“But I’m taking New Jersey Transit, the Morris/Essex Line.”

Zach Braff’s tribute to the M & E line (now to Manhattan) is nice but he seems to be in a North Jersey state of mind more than a New Jersey State of mind. For many of us (and I think that includes you, Bob) New Jersey means more than being across a river from New York City. Of course Zach is playing to an audience who known that the ony important thing is that we are close to the Big Apple.

Most of the trains on the M&E operate entirely within the State of New Jersey.

Zach was born in South Orange and went to high school in Maplewood (hence the reference to the M&E). I think a North Jersey bias is natural.
