The never-ending study, part II

July 13th 2007 07:51 am

You may recall that we previously reported that the MOM draft environmental impact study, which started in 2001(!), was scheduled to be completed in 2008. Now, the Asbury Park Press is reporting that there is “no firm estimate” of when the study will be completed:

Joe Dee, an NJ Transit spokesman, said there is “no firm estimate” on when the draft environmental impact study will be completed.

This is absolutely ridiculous. How can it possibly take a decade or longer to study a single rail line? And when they’re done, the results will be obsolete, and they’ll have to start all over again.

This is a perfect example of NJ Transit stalling on projects that they don’t want to do. Someone needs to read the riot act to NJT management and tell them to get moving on this project. A decade to do a study is unacceptable.
