Cheaper monthly fares to Newark Airport

NJ Transit has eliminated the Newark Airport surcharge for monthly rail tickets, at least temporarily:
MONTHLY ACCESS FEE WAIVED AT NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Beginning September 1, 2007, the $40 access fee will be waived on NJ TRANSIT monthly rail passes to/from Newark Liberty International rail station.
The elimination of the access fee is a pilot program for one year and will be reevaluated at that time.
This means the monthly fare will be about the same as for trips to Newark Penn Station or North Elizabeth. For example, the fare from Metropark to the airport will go from $174 to $134.
Hopefully this change will be permanent and they’ll also eliminate the airport surcharge on the other types of tickets.

Now if they would just remove the tourist trap signs along the Raritan Line, and probably other lines lacking ticket offices, which reduces demand to a trickle. They advise EWR-bound passengers to buy a ticket on-board the train for Newark Penn, and then buy a separate ticket from a TVM there, which is another $7.75, and has no excursion fare option.
All they really have to do at this point is buy an on-board through ticket, one-way or round trip, to North Elizabeth, which is priced for the longer leg of the trip on the RVL portion only, then pay the PA $5 exit fare upon arrival at EWR.
