Santa Claus rides the MOM line

December 16th 2007 07:28 am

Santa Claus left his sleigh behind and rode a train on the MOM line into Freehold Borough to the delight of over 100 children on Saturday. The Asbury Park Press has a photo of Santa on the front of the locomotive.

Now if only Santa Claus was able to give the residents of Middlesex, Ocean, and Monmouth counties regular passenger service on the MOM line.

Some more about the event, from the Asbury Park Press:

Santa hopped off the train soon after it pulled into the borough train station, scooping children up onto his lap as members of the Freehold Police Department handed out presents.

As Santa posed for picture after picture, Christmas music by Freehold native Bruce Springsteen blared from a large set of speakers positioned outside a firehouse across the street…

This is the 10th year the borough has managed to snag Santa at the train station during the busy holiday season, said Chris Colaner, a delegate of Freehold’s Policemen’s Benevolent Association, which organized the event together with Conrail.

“For such a nice event,” Colaner said, “you’d be surprised at how easy it is to pull off.”

That last sentence is poignant, isn’t it? However, the bureaucrats at NJT and NJDOT always try to make it look so hard.

That’s a pretty unfair comment, given that NJ Transit operates a Santa train for disabled kids every year.
