Serving New Jersey’s rail passengers since 1980 |
New Jersey needs a strong, interconnected transportation network to
combat problems such as massive traffic congestion, air and noise
pollution, and inefficient land and water use, all of which encroach
upon our resources, our competitiveness and our general quality of life.
As the leading consumer rail passenger organization within the state,
the New Jersey Association of Railroad Passengers (NJ-ARP) has supported a balanced public transportation system for all of New Jersey.
NJ-ARP
is a not-for-profit
corporation established in 1980 by concerned New Jersey residents who
wanted a greater voice in deciding the transit future of our state. We
have played an active role both in the implementation of new passenger
rail service, and in restoration of services cancelled in the 1960s
before the implementation of New Jersey Transit (NJT). Click on the Our Projects button above under the red banner to see the changes we've made over three decades.
We are a volunteer organization with no paid staff. Our volunteers, many
of whom work within the transportation field, are among the best and
most diverse in New Jersey. Many have testified at hearings held by New
Jersey Transit, PATH, Amtrak, PATCO, and various other governmental
agencies. For over thirty years, NJ-ARP
has been on the forefront in advocating inter-modal transportation
solutions statewide, using rail, light rail, ferry, bus, or even
bicycle, with a focus on rail and light-rail and their synergy with other modes.

|
Help improve the ride of the future! |
Your
support is vital to improve the transportation system of New Jersey.
Every voice is needed to make clear the importance of rail passenger
service. Public education, informing media and elected officials of the
valuable role a balanced transportation system plays in our state is a
part of NJ-ARP’s mandate. Outreach by NJ-ARP
members at public forums and to the media helped revise downward some
of the more onerous provisions of recent NJT and PATH fare increases. NJ-ARP has and will continue to influence NJT’s equipment design decisions. You may have ideas of your own. NJ-ARP wants to hear them! |
