MOM Rail Line Myths vs. Facts

Myth: Fact:
There will be 7 to 8 trains per hour. NJ Transit has said there will up to 42 trains per day. This means 21 trains in each direction between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. There will probably be a train every 30 minutes in the morning and evening peak service and hourly service at other times.
The trains will travel at high speeds. The only place the train will travel at high speed will be on the Northeast Corridor line between Monmouth Junction and Newark.
The trains will disrupt the environment by causing pollution. Riders on the train will not use their cars, which will lessen pollution.
The train line will cause development. Strong zoning rules, farmland preservation and open space preservation will prevent most development.
The train line will cause problems with school buses. NJ law requires all buses to stop at every railroad crossing, at all times. NJ Transit has been running trains since 1983 and has never had an accident involving school buses.
There will be a decrease in property values. Other communities that have increased passenger rail service have seen an increase in property values.
There must be other ways to get to New York City Not everyone travels to New York City. The line will provide rail service to New Brunswick and Newark.
